Jim 'Ike' Bryner, Tape 3 - Strickler's Barn

This is a tape from a dance at Strickler's barn. My father tells me that this was a working farm and they held dances frequently in their barn. Here are some of the people Jim listed on the cassette case (more are announced on the tape). Jim Hardy, Jim Bryner, Pinkie Shoemaker, Doan Hughes, Phillip Birkby (6 yrs old), Paul Crane (singing some country tunes during intermission), Harry Cuningham, Bob Brown, Tommy Williamson, Bruno Gardner (banjo) and Jitney Hall.

This is a real fun tape. However, the recording quality is somewhat poor in an interesting way. The original recording must have been done on a little cassette deck out in the audience. The crowd noise can be very loud, so it may take a few songs to get used to it. Also, the recording quality song to song varies so do get your hopes up too high when it sounds good, and don't get discouraged when the quality gets poor. It's all worth listening.

I haven't had time enter my notes for the songs so here is a basic list of the tunes. Some feedback from tapes 1 and 2 prompted me to put some more music up here (feedback and suggestions are great encouragement). I'll fill in the blanks when I get time.

Session 1

I'm listing the whole tape as one session right now. When I get time I'll break it into logical sections.
There is one session, with forty (40) songs on this tape.
A variety of perfomers appear on this tape.
The recording quality of this session is ok to poor.

*Title Notes: I entered the title listing for this tape quickly so it doesn't really follow my standard conventions for titles (see below)
Items in single quotes are my comments. Items in parenthesis with two question marks, are things that it sounded like to me but I wasn't sure or it didn't make sense. Items in double quotes are other things Jim said that might be relevant to the title and or song. File size is in parenthesis following the title.
Please email me any corrected song titles. There are a number of songs that I don't have titles, or they may be incorrect. You can email me corrections using my address shown at the top and bottom of this page.
